If you’re like me you love having a well looked after, green patch of grass to call your own. There’s nothing like that beautiful lush, verdant, soft lawn under your bare feet on a summer’s evening. But there’s one thing I’m not so keen on. Cutting it. But imagine if you could have a beautiful lawn without ever needing to lift a finger again. Sounds too good to be true? Read on to find out more.

The Honda Power Miimo is a clever little robotic mower that you can control remotely via the smartphone app.

Introducing the Honda Miimo Robotic Mower

Robotic mowers have been around for a while. You probably know someone with one or at least have seen one at work. Have you ever thought what it would be like to own one? The little roamer just chugs away, cutting the grass on what seems like an endless cycle. I’ve always been curious to try one and so it was great to be sent the Miimo Robotic Mower by the good people at Honda Power for a two month trial.

The initial set up looked daunting but I had the guide wires pegged out round my lawn and the little guy (yes it was a ‘he’) snipping away within a couple of hours. The instructions were clear but if you didn’t fancy doing it, there are people and companies that specialise in doing the set up for you.

Although the robot does the cutting, you’re in full control via the Miimo app on your smartphone (some of the basic Miimo models don’t have this function). You can choose the times and days for cutting and even avoid when you like to be out enjoying the garden. The Miimo will adjust the cutting cycle to account for weather – he doesn’t come out if it’s too cold or wet. Sensible fella. No app? No problem – the Miimo has a display screen and controls that you can programme.

With your grass getting cut on a regular basis, the clippings are short and the mower turns this into mulch which goes back into the soil to feed new growth. Not only does it cut your grass but you don’t need to pick clippings up.

It was a cold day we set up the Miimo. I had a little help pegging out the guide wires.

Imagine if You Never Needed to Cut your Lawn Again. Ever.

Some people might see a robot mower as an opulent status symbol but the Honda range has entry level models that retail for around £900 – he price of a good self propelled Honda petrol mower. But (and this is a big but) you don’t have to do the work. What could you do with all that free time – spend it on gardening jobs you actually enjoy?

Being able to ‘set and forget’ using the app is a big advantage as well as the unit having the sense not to cut in the rain. Having the Miimo has been great. I’ll be sorry to see the little fella go.
