Do you know what a self limiting belief is? Ok so maybe you haven’t heard it called that but I bet you know what it is. The truth is we all have them – things we believe about ourselves, that we just know to be true that keep us back. I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the last few days – the labels we put on ourselves to keep us back. It goes something like this:

  • I’m no good at cooking.
  • I don’t understand the stock market.
  • I just don’t know how to dance – I’ve got two left feet.

Whenever you tell yourself these things – guess what? They become true. When we use that negative language about ourselves we believe what we tell ourselves and others.

I bet you do it all the time – limiting yourself by constantly telling yourself you can’t do something. So how can you get you out of this funk?

Here’s an up to date example (and in no way a sales pitch) of how you could apply a solution to your life. It’s really easy. All you need is four little words

But

I

Can

Learn

Learning new skills has never been easier now with the explosion of online learning sites.

These Four Words Could Change Your Life

I’ve long been interested in day trading on the crypto and investment markets. Not because I think I’ll become a one-percenter trader or even because I want to make tons of money at it – just because I’m interested and want to learn about how it works.

But there’s a problem – I have no idea what I’m doing, where to start or what all the terminology means.

Very self limiting.

So how can you overcome this negativity? With one phrase. Are you ready? “But I can learn.” Crazy right. Imagine if you added them on to the list above. What happens?

  • I’m no good at cooking, but I can learn.
  • I don’t understand the stock market, but I can learn.
  • I just don’t know how to dance – I’ve got two left feet, but I can learn.

All you did was add on four words and your outlook is completely changed. The truth is that it’s never been easier to learn new skills, become better at things, read more books or be more successful.

There are loads of places where you can learn new skills for very little cost or even for free.

  • YouTube has millions of hours of free tuition on nearly every topic you can imagine
  • Sites like Udemy have online courses from the cost of a posh takeout lunch.
  • You could learn a new language with somewhere like Babbel.
  • LinkedIn might be the dorkiest social network but LinkedIn Learning is a gold mine of exceptional courses. When my employer had a month trial, I enrolled in loads of courses.

A positive attitude goes a long way to making that a reality for you.
