Nick Searcy is a Hollywood and TV actor. He’s won awards and starred in numerous movies and TV shows such as Castaway and cop drama Justified.

However when I tweeted about how much reading Gorilla Mindset had improved my life, he replied to my tweets calling me a ‘sucker’ and a ‘stupid loser’.

(I can’t publish the ‘sucker’ tweet as it contains expletives)

Why would an acclaimed actor like Nick Searcy be trolling people who are talking about improving their lives?

And what should he be doing instead?

Calling Justified Actor Nick Searcy a Twitter Bully Would be Inaccurate

It would be easy for me to go public about how ‘Justified Actor Nick Searcy called me mean names on Twitter.’

Or to publish some of the tweets I received from his followers after he trolled me and called me a ‘stupid loser’.

But the truth is that these are just some angry words from someone I’ve never met and, until yesterday, had never heard of.

Crying about how hurt my feelings are would be disingenuous and against everything I believe in.

It’s more productive if I examine why Justified actor Searcy might have felt like he wanted to attack me and suggest some things he could do to improve his life and mindset in the way I have been able to.

Nick Searcy is a Dad. His Twitter profile says he’s an award winning actor. According to his Wikipedia entry he’s had bit roles in a number of well known movies including Castaway (2000) and a recurring role in the TV series Justified.

Searcy is also directing a film about Kermit Gosnell.

But is it possible that he’s at a point in his life when things haven’t quite worked out the way he wanted? If so, I understand because I’ve felt that way too.

In fact the low point that I mentioned in my tweet included this exact feeling: A lack of purpose and a sinking feeling that life was passing me by.

It made me angry and want to lash out at people. I was aggressive towards people I’d never met or had any real beef with.

My friends and family noticed.

I was in a mess.

I was also jealous of people who were doing well in life and going places and so if Nick Searcy is feeling the same thing, I get it.

You’re hurting. Lashing out feels good.

This was the time I started reading more and Gorilla Mindset was one of those books.

(If you’re reading this Nick, you really should read it – it will give you the answers you’re looking for.)

Applying the mindset techniques helped me rediscover my focus and look at my mind and body as a whole. It was the key to unlocking a better me.

Sucker and Stupid Loser – I’ve Been Called Worse

Focusing can really get you out of a negative place. In the last year I’ve focused on:

  • Improving my writing
  • Building my website and personal brand
  • Working consistently at my fitness and mental well being

The fact that bitter old men like Nick Searcy want to attack me on Twitter tells me that I’m doing something right. He sees in me the missed opportunities of his youth.

But it’s not too late.

It’s never too late to make a change in your life. I write for Dads of all ages and so I write for Nick Searcy too.

It’s never too late to improve your fitness, your mindset or your career.

It won’t be easy and it will take hard work – I’ve never worked so hard in my life. But I do know it will be worth it.

It will be worth it not just for me, but for my kids too.

P.S. If Nick Searcy wanted the inside track on being the best Dad he could be he’d have signed up for my emails already.

  1. Neil,
Unfortunately I did see that tweet that you and Mike received from him and it was bad form on his part. It may be true that he is probably angry at how things did not probably pan out for him but its a part of life. He has to work with what he got and build his foundation.
I have the Gorilla Mindset book as well and even though a lot of stuff in Mike’s book i have known for a long time I have to say it is still a great read! It has helped me remind myself on where I should be. I carry that book in my laptop bag so when I got to work i read a few pages to get me hyped up and of course to remind myself.
It is never too late to become better in life. Nick just has to accept it and move on from there. Remember that in every end there is a new beginning. Maybe he will take heed of your post and begin to change.
There is nothing worse than a man who is angry at the world! It takes so much energy from you that it makes you old and unhealthy. We have to live our lives and realize that at times you will hit negatives points every now and then you just have to plow through them.
Don’t worry about Nick he will come around soon enough and if he doesn’t then its his loss.

    Great Post
    Jose

    • Thanks Jose and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed reading Gorilla Mindset as much as I have. You make a good point about unhappiness making us unhealthy. Both things are so inter-connected.

Take it easy and thanks for reading!
