I’ve had a lifelong love of books and the written word. Aged 7 I would spend hours at the public library reading fiction, non fiction and graphic novels (back then they were just called ‘comics’).

This love of books has followed me through adult life and into fatherhood. Being a modern Dad is a difficult task and can feel like a balancing act of health, career, kids and a developing and deepening relationship with my wife.

I’m going to be honest – I need all the help I can get. Books have been a big part of that and so it’s only right that I share the books I value with you.

On This Dad Does, you’ll see a number of book reviews and articles on reading. I’ve even been doing a regular Periscope (link) on books and what I’m reading right now.

Here are a couple of my more popular articles on books and reading:

But wouldn’t it be great if there was a place on ThisDadDoes.com where you could see the best books for Dads at the click of a button?

Introducing the Best Books For Dads Bookshelf Page

If you are a subscriber, you’ve already had a sneak preview of the Bookshelf area of the site. I’ve listed a few of the books that I really love (and think you will too). Many of these books have been influential in changing the way I think, train or live.

They’ve also helped me become a better Dad.

Have a look at the list – what do you notice? Not a lot of books on parenting/being a dad are there? Which is funny because it’s amazing that any of our fathers managed to raise us without the continuous input of New York Times best selling authors.

Or the Huffington Post Parents page.

Sure I’ve read books on fatherhood but I have a different theory about being a Dad that flies in the face of popular thought: Continuous personal improvement will allow you to become the man and that father that you and your family needs.

That’s why I’ve got books up there on weight training, leadership, gardening and mindset. Because learning these skills and putting them into practice will not just improve you, it will improve the lives of those around you – including your kids.

You can find a link to my Bookshelf here.

P.S. A few months ago I switched from a free WordPress theme to the excellent Marketers Delight. The Bookshelf is a brand new feature of this versatile theme developed by MD creator Alex Magnini. Check it out here.
