If you’ve been looking for an online calculator for Steve Solomon’s ‘Complete Organic Fertiliser’ or COF, you’re in the right place.

Steve Solomon’s book Gardening When it Counts (get it here) has to be one of the most important works on low input, self sufficient food growing.

Foundational to the book is Solomon’s complete organic fertiliser or COF. This is carefully formulated to enrich and condition your soil so that you experience the yields you’ve always wanted. But without the nasty synthetic fertilisers.

But if you’re like me, weights and volumes such as ‘quarts’ and ‘feet’ don’t mean much. I was raised on the metric system.

So, to make Solomon’s COF accessible to all, I’ve converted the units of measure used in Gardening When it Counts into this handy online COF calculator.

P.S. Guess what? I also wrote a book. It’s got a bit of gardening in it but mostly it’s about what makes an awesome father even more awesome-er. Get it here.

  1. Thanks a bunch for posting this. I have to use alfalfa pellets instead of the meal due to local availability, and I was stressing about the volume differences.

    • Hi David, thanks for reading and I’m glad this was of use. It took a bit of calculating but it’s a simple and easy to follow formula. Using alfalfa pellets is a good shout and probably less messy too.
