The JACS Baby Carrier is the new kid on the baby carrier block. But how good is it? And does it have an edge over more established brands?

Keep reading my JACS baby carrier review to find out.

If you’re an active Dad who loves the outdoors and keeping fit and healthy then you’re also the type to use a baby carrier.

A baby carrier gives you so much more freedom than a buggy or pram. You can’t take a pram up a mountain! With a baby carrier, you can take your young children pretty much anywhere.

I’ve previously reviewed a range of different baby carriers but now it’s time to look at the JACS baby carrier in more detail.

The JACS Complete Package includes the detachable day sack and ammo pouches.

JACS is start-up that launched their flagship baby carrier in 2015. The design is inspired by military webbing and utility wear and is made of the same material as vests used by Special Forces and Police.

Other key features of the JACS baby carrier are:

  • A simple design that is easy to use and set up
  • Low slung back carry position that is better for your back
  • Accessories that include a daysack – perfect for longer walks
  • A lightweight system that isn’t bulky and can pack and fold away easily – great for air travel

The JACS is available in both tactical black and digital multi-cam options for urban or rural style.

While the JACS has plenty of clever design features, I want to focus in on the most important benefits.

JACS Baby Carrier: Easy to Use and Set Up

You need simplicity and ease of use. This is especially true when it comes to baby carriers.

You don’t need to picture the scene – you’ve been there before. Struggling with your current baby carrier or buggy while bewildered passers by gawk and stare.

“Does he know what he’s doing??” is what they’re really thinking…

Thankfully your JACS comes ready assembled and set up in front carry mode (best for little ones over 3 months).

There is also a fully illustrated and detailed PDF manual which gives you step by step instructions to changing from front to back mode, maintenance and cleaning.

You want to be able to set up and put on your baby carrier without any help. Thankfully, the JACS passes this test with flying colours.

Changing from front carry to back carry modes is a case of extending the shoulder straps, un-clipping the front of the carrier and moving it to the back and takes seconds. What could be simpler?

Lightweight and Versatile

The JACS baby carrier is one of the lightest on the market at a total weight of under 2 kilos (4.5lbs).

Because of its soft fabric design, it can be foldes up and stored easily or stuffed in a bag for easy travel. This is a huge advantage over bulkier frame based carriers!!

Your child also sits lower than other backpack carriers, meaning the baby’s weight is over your hips and lower back, not your shoulders. Have a look at the photo below to see what I mean.

This is similar to how soldiers carry equipment in waist belts or back packs – low slung with the weight towards the base of the spine for comfort.

Because of the three different modes, this could also be the only baby carrier you’ll ever need, saving you from buying different products for different needs.

The JACS gives you Value for Money

The JACS baby carrier is at the more expensive end of the market with the Starter Pack retailing for £125.00. However this includes a lifetime guarantee on all parts. Other brands only offer up to a few years.

So, if you have three kids (2 years apart) and they all use the carrier for 2 years each, that’s just £1.73 per month. Less than a Starbucks coffee!

You could then sell the product, including the guarantee, second hand. You could even keep using the harness and accessories for hiking, shopping or going to the gym!!

Final Thoughts

The JACS baby carrier is an innovative and well conceptualised product. As you can see I personally use it and have been impressed by the comfort, versatility and lightweight design.

A baby carrier like the JACS gives you so much freedom, you’ll never want to use the buggy ever again!!
